Spiritual Warfare
For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. - Ephesians 6:12
Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum
-Vegetius
"If you desire peace, prepare for war."
-Vegetius
Spiritual warfare is real. Catholics believe it is part of our daily journey of faith and the steady march toward heaven. It isn’t about fear or superstition, but about recognizing that we live in a world where both good and evil are at work and can influence our lives.
The Church teaches that Christ has already won the ultimate victory, but we are still called to stand firm, strengthened by the sacraments, prayer, and God’s Word. Understanding spiritual warfare helps us see how God equips us with grace to resist temptation, overcome sin, and live with courage and hope in His light.
What is Spiritual Warfare?
"The human person, created in the image of God, is a being at once corporeal and spiritual." - CCC, 362

When God created man in his image and likeness, he effectively created a being that is spiritual as well as physical. We understand the spiritual component of man to be the soul, and we know the soul and the body are unified so that separating them results in death. Spiritual warfare therefore refers to the daily endeavor a soul must engage in during life, and it is a result of sin.
